A professor of European medieval art history in Bern since 2017, Beate Fricke comes to the Swiss capital by way of Karlsruhe, Trier, Rome, Zurich and Berkeley. She also taught at the University of California, Berkeley for six years.

Professor Fricke is leading a new research project in Bern that will challenge notions of European art history by bringing together medieval art historians from across the globe to explore how the representation of space in two-dimensional art works in different cultures.
